They call me Adam Yauch, but I’m MCA!!!!!!!!!

Today MCA lost his battle with cancer and it kinda feels surreal because earlier in the week I was talking with DJKevinScott about how I hope they go back on tour.  The Beastie Boys were my idols growing up and today was such a huge loss for hip hop and the music world in a whole.  My teenage years were like a Beastie Boys soundtrack, my friends and I wanted to rap like them, party like them and dress like them……down to the tight roll jeans and Adidas.  I think I wore the blue ABA basketball ringer shirt everyday during my Junior year in high school and my yearbook quote was “You gotta fight for your right to Party!”   When we had crazy snow storms back East we would take beers from our parents and make Beastie Boys videos all night.  When I turned 16 and got a car the first thing I did was put a Beastie Boys sticker on the back window and a Beasties Patchouli Air Fresher around the rear view.  On a drive from NH to NY I made a stop at White Castle because if the Beasties rapped about it, I listened. The first time I saw brands like Supreme and Bape was on the Beastie Boys! Every time I saw them in concert I was blown away and felt like a kid on Christmas morning.  The last time I saw them live was in 2004 at the Worcester Centrum right after they released “To the 5 Boroughs” and it was amazing! I had tickets to see them at the Hollywood Bowl in 09′ right after I moved to LA but they cancelled the show when MCA became sick.  There will never be another group like the Beastie Boys and as selfish as it might sound I’m so mad that I’ll never be able to see them in concert again but thankful for all the years of great music and memories!  RIP Adam “MCA” Yauch, you will be missed!
